The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) is Victoria's independent statutory authority responsible for setting and maintaining curriculum, assessment and reporting standards from the early years through to senior secondary education.

About the Director, Assessment Policy and Strategy Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Assessment, the Director, Assessment Policy and Strategy is a key member of the VCAA Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organisational leadership and the delivery of the Authority's strategic priorities.

This influential executive role leads initiatives that shape the future of assessment across Victoria, supporting improved learning outcomes for children and young people from early childhood through to senior secondary education. Leading a dynamic, responsive and cross-functional team, the Director provides expert advice, analysis and stakeholder engagement to support evidence-based decision-making and organisational success.

The Director is responsible for leading assessment policy development, delivering reform initiatives and educational measurement advice, while driving reform and continuous improvement across the assessment ecosystem. The role also plays a critical part in translating the VCAA Strategic Plan into practical outcomes that strengthen assessment practice and support system-wide improvement.

Operating within a complex and highly visible stakeholder environment, the Director works collaboratively across government, the education sector and the broader organisation to build trusted partnerships, navigate complexity and advance the VCAA's mission of delivering high-quality, equitable and contemporary assessment frameworks.

About You

You are an accomplished executive leader with a track record of leading strategy, policy, reform, transformation or complex service delivery initiatives within education, government, regulatory or similarly complex environments.

You bring strong systems thinking, strategic judgement and stakeholder engagement capabilities, together with the ability to navigate ambiguity, influence decision-makers and deliver meaningful outcomes in complex and evolving settings. You have successfully led organisational change, driven improvement initiatives and provided trusted advice at executive and senior leadership levels.

A collaborative and values-driven leader, you are recognised for building trusted relationships, fostering alignment across diverse stakeholder groups and creating high-performing teams. You combine exceptional communication and influencing skills with the ability to engage effectively across government, the education sector and broader community.

A relevant tertiary qualification is required. Experience in education policy, assessment, curriculum, public sector leadership or the delivery of complex reform and transformation initiatives will be highly regarded.
