About WorkSafe Victoria
WorkSafe Victoria is Victoria’s workplace health and safety regulator and workplace injury insurer, committed to reducing workplace harm and improving outcomes for injured workers. Operating within a highly visible and publicly accountable environment, WorkSafe plays a critical role in supporting safer workplaces, delivering return to work, insurance and recovery services, and partnering with employers, workers, government and the broader community to improve health and safety outcomes across the state.
As steward of Victoria’s workers’ compensation scheme, WorkSafe is responsible for managing significant long-term liabilities and ensuring the ongoing sustainability of a scheme that supports Victorian workers, employers and communities. This responsibility requires strong governance, financial stewardship and risk management practices that balance community outcomes with long-term scheme performance, resilience and sustainability.
WorkSafe’s five-year strategy focuses on reducing workplace deaths and injuries, improving return-to-work outcomes, and ensuring long-term organisational sustainability through innovation, collaboration and operational excellence. The organisation is committed to fostering an inclusive, values-driven and high-performing culture that supports meaningful impact for Victorians.
About the Chief Risk Officer Role
Reporting to the Executive Director Corporate Services and also having a close working relationship with the CEO and Board Committee, the Chief Risk Officer will provide strategic leadership across enterprise risk, assurance and resilience functions, ensuring WorkSafe maintains robust governance and risk management practices aligned to organisational priorities.
The role will oversee the development and implementation of enterprise-wide risk frameworks, advise executive and Board stakeholders on current and emerging risks, and strengthen organisational capability in risk-informed decision-making. The CRO will play a critical role in supporting strategic priorities, enhancing organisational resilience and ensuring effective assurance across WorkSafe’s operational, regulatory and insurance environment.
The Chief Risk Officer will also provide strategic oversight and challenge in relation to the risks that underpin the long-term sustainability of Victoria’s workers’ compensation scheme, including strategic, operational, financial and emerging risks, ensuring WorkSafe continues to meet its obligations to Victorian workers, employers and the broader community.
About You
We are seeking a senior executive with significant experience leading enterprise risk and assurance functions within complex and highly regulated environments. You will bring demonstrated capability engaging with executive and Board stakeholders, driving strategic risk management initiatives and embedding strong governance and assurance practices across large organisations.
You are well regarded for your understanding of enterprise risk management and the application of prudential risk management principles within organisations responsible for managing significant financial obligations, long-tail liabilities and long-term sustainability objectives. Experience with risk appetite frameworks, stress testing, scenario analysis and governance practices that support organisational resilience and financial sustainability will be highly regarded.
You will have a reputation as an influential and collaborative leader with strong judgement, commercial acumen and the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity. Experience within insurance, government, regulatory, financial services or other publicly accountable sectors will be highly regarded.
