Chief Information Officer (CIO)

  • Shape technology strategy, investment and transformation
  • Executive role leading technology, digital, cyber and data capability
  • Be part of an organisation making a difference to Victorian workers

About WIC

The Workplace Injury Commission (WIC) is a Victorian Government statutory authority providing independent dispute resolution services for Victoria’s workers compensation scheme.

WIC helps resolve disputes between injured workers, employers, WorkCover agents and self-insurers through conciliation and binding arbitration. Operating independently and at no cost to injured workers, WIC plays an important role in supporting fair, accessible and effective resolution of workers compensation disputes.

Purpose-driven and values-based, WIC’s vision is to be the leading dispute resolution authority in Australia, delivering outstanding service to participants while remaining faithful to the legislative basis that enables its work.

About the Chief Information Officer Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this newly created executive role will be WIC’s first dedicated CIO. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CIO will provide both enterprise leadership and strategic and operational direction across WIC’s technology and data portfolio.

The role creates, for the first time, a single permanent executive accountability for technology, digital delivery, cyber security and enterprise data. The role will lead the implementation of WIC’s IT Operating Model, bringing together existing technology functions while building the internal capability, governance and disciplines required for the future.

With WIC’s technology and data capability at an early stage of maturity, the CIO will shape the technology vision, IT strategy and enterprise architecture; establish contemporary service management and cyber security practices; strengthen enterprise data and analytics capability; and oversee technology investment, vendors and delivery.

The CIO will also provide technology leadership and assurance across major platform initiatives, including WIC’s case management system and Microsoft Platform Project, while ensuring technology decisions support WIC’s statutory responsibilities, strategic priorities and evolving service needs.

As one of WIC’s six executives, the CIO will share accountability for enterprise strategy, performance and culture. The role will build and empower a capable senior leadership tier, lead organisational change and establish a sustainable technology function that enables WIC’s continued growth and service delivery.

About You

You are an accomplished senior technology leader with experience operating at, or immediately below, executive level and accountability across both technology operations and transformation.

You bring demonstrated experience building or significantly maturing a technology or data function, including operating model design, organisational structure, sourcing strategy, capability development and the establishment of contemporary technology disciplines. You will have led enterprise platform implementation through delivery, go-live and stabilisation, together with significant technology investment, vendor and commercial management.

You bring strong knowledge across enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, IT service management, cyber security, technology risk, data and analytics, with the judgement to set strategic direction, test advice and translate complex technology matters for executive and Board audiences.

You are an enterprise-minded, values-driven leader who can operate effectively within a regulated and accountability-intensive environment. You bring the ability to build capable teams, empower leaders, navigate complexity and establish trusted relationships across government, Boards, executives, technology partners and other stakeholders.

Tertiary qualifications in information technology, engineering or a closely related discipline are required, with equivalent depth of professional experience also considered. Public sector experience is valued but not mandatory; experience within a statutory authority, tribunal, commission, court or similarly regulated environment will be highly regarded.
