Our client is a purpose-led organisation operating at the intersection of education, workforce development and industry capability is seeking to appoint an experienced and commercially astute Board Director and Chairperson for its Finance Committee.
This organisation plays a critical role in developing Australia’s skilled workforce through an integrated model spanning vocational education, apprenticeship employment and industry partnerships. Operating within a dynamic and highly regulated environment, the organisation requires strong governance, strategic oversight and contemporary financial leadership to support continued sustainability and growth.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Board Chair, the Chairperson of the Finance Committee will provide leadership across financial stewardship, investment oversight and organisational sustainability. Working closely with fellow Directors, the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team, the successful candidate will contribute to strategic decision-making while overseeing the organisation’s financial governance frameworks, budgeting processes and investment management activities. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to a purpose-driven organisation delivering meaningful impact across industry, education and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
- Chair the Finance Committee and oversee its annual work program
- Provide strategic oversight of financial performance, budgets and long-term sustainability
- Support oversight of investment management and financial risk frameworks
- Contribute to Board-level governance, strategy and decision-making
- Monitor organisational performance, compliance and fiduciary obligations
- Partner constructively with executive leadership to support strategic priorities and innovation
Candidate Profile
The Board is seeking candidates with demonstrated senior executive and/or Board experience, ideally gained within complex, regulated or purpose-led environments. Key capabilities include:
- Strong financial and commercial acumen
- CPA or CA qualifications preferred
- Experience chairing or contributing to Finance, Audit or Risk Committees
- Understanding of governance, compliance and fiduciary responsibilities
- Strategic mindset with the ability to support sustainable organisational growth
- High levels of integrity, judgement and collaborative leadership
- Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders across industry, government and community sectors
Experience within education, workforce development, training, infrastructure, construction or adjacent sectors will be highly regarded, though not essential.
Time Commitment & Remuneration
The Board meets approximately seven times per year, with committee meetings held quarterly and an annual strategy session. This is a remunerated appointment.
